Our little boy is 10 months old, and boy, is he BUSY!
Among his favorite things to do are, making messes, causing messes, haphazardly throwing things on the floor, and giving our apartment the appearance of a tornado having ripped through it:

Yup, that’s ALL Justin’s doing. All of those items (except the ball, obviously) were neatly placed in or on the shelf he’s leaning against just moments before this picture was taken. Don’t believe me? Witness the following:
Unfortunately, my camera battery didn’t let me get anymore video after that, but here’s the end result:

Besides all that, Justin has done a lot this past month. He cut both top teeth in one weekend. Below you’ll find Justin showing off his new choppers!

As you can imagine, this has made continued breastfeeding really *fun* as he learns to adjust his latch. Round two of post-teething-mastitis here we come (tell tale signs started this morning)! I’m hanging in there, though, thanks to the support of some great friends.
Justin has started sleeping a little better. Last time I checked in about him sleeping through the night, he was up every hour most nights. Getting sick and exhausted, we night-weaned Justin again. It helps. He now only wakes up twice a night. Much better, though far from perfect. Someday we’ll all sleep through the night. Someday…
While not walking quite yet (he stood up on his own without support for the first time today!), he’s working on some other mad-skills. Like talking.
This month he added “all done” to his repetoire of consistently used words (the others being Momma, Dadda, and Na-na). He’s really showing a gift for language, though. Yesterday at Church he was sitting on the floor of the sanctuary looking through a book when another toddler tried to turn the pages for him. He wasn’t too thrilled with this and got annoyed; but rather than just yank it away or yell, he gently put his hand on hers and said to her face, “all done” and went back to looking at his book upon her prompt retreat. Generally, “all done” is used when I’m part-way through changing his diaper and he’s decided that he’s had enough with my fussing with him: he flips over and takes off saying “all done!”
You can also tell he’s putting things together. Yesterday (also at Church) we saw our friend Stacy bring her 5-month-old, Noah in. I told Justin, “That’s baby Noah!” And he responded by reaching out to rub Noah’s back and “shh-ing” him – apparently that’s what you do with babies!
Funny boy!
Funny little boy!

After much debate, we concluded that Christmas Eve and Christmas morning would be best spent as a family at Church, opening a few gifts Christmas Eve (after Church) until we were too tired, and that we’d do stockings Christmas morning before church. This is how it went:
Christmas Eve service went well, and while long, was well worth the snowy drive to Everson.
Rushing home after the service to open gifts proved a task. Justin was pretty worn out from the service and we attempted the opening of like 2 gifts, then gave up. Justin just watched me open them, but was happy to see the gifts once opened. (We were too excited to heed Debbie’s sage advice.)
Christmas morning went much better. We got up a little early for Church and spent some time letting Justin tackle the remaining gifts under the tree and his stocking:

This morning time before Church was absolutely precious. Justin may have learned too well that paper is not to be torn (though he’ll happily crumple, chew on, or otherwise mangle it), and therefore needed a fair bit of assistance in opening his gifts. He’d watch excitedly and “help” a little as his gifts emerged. Pretty awesome – hopefully next year, he’ll be tearing into them of his own accord.
We took our time getting to Christmas morning Liturgy since we’d just gotten like 4 inches of fresh snow and other drivers were being crazy, but once there, everybody was happy to be there and there was lots of energy around us (between the excited kids and the parents being happy that the kids were happy but not unruly).
Directly following Church and a short visit with friends there, we headed for Seattle, or rather, Edmonds to spend the rest of Christmas day with my family. There was one little hitch though: our van encountered some trouble on the way down. No cell phone, barely able to keep it moving faster than 10 mph, hazards on while driving down the shoulder of the freeway to the nearest exit I could get to. Yeah, it was awesome. We did however, get a Christmas miracle out of it: the gas station attendant at the place we pulled into knew right off the bat what was wrong – water in the fuel line, and was prepared with a dirt cheap ($3) fix which worked like a charm. Thank God!

All in all, I find it fair to say (despite the car trouble on the way) that this Christmas was one of the most relaxed and enjoyable that I’ve had in my adult life.
Yes, I’m attempting to catch up. I will now, basically, spam my own blog page with overdue posts…

This is our rediculously busy little boy around his 9-month birthday. In his hand is “stick”. “Stick” is Justin’s current favorite toy. At night now, we say, “Nigh night, Daddy!… Nigh night, Stick!” (persuading Justin to then put Stick in the toy basket generally takes multiple “Nigh night Stick” promptings).
Here are Justin’s Current Top 5 Favorites:
1. Stick, which we already covered, but as far as toys go, anything that makes noise, has wheels, or can be easily thrown is at the top of the list (he might just be a boy…). Stick wins because he can whack it on stuff and hear the different sounds it makes, he can chew on it, AND he gets quite the response from momma and daddy when he whacks them with it.
2. Yogurt. He actually gets angry and cries for more when he’s finished off what we’ll give him – he doesn’t do that with any other food.
3. Climbing. Kid can’t walk yet, but he sure loves to climb. Doesn’t matter what it is – a box, a book, a toy, a parent, a piece of paper… it can – and will – be climbed upon.
4. Singing songs. It’s not unusual to hear a loud, “Ah la! la! la!” in our home, or wherever else we might be. Not to mention he loves to “sing along” and giggle when we sing songs to him with his name in them ie. “Justin the Red-Nosed Baby” or “Oh My Justin! Oh My Justin! Oh My Justin, funny boy!” (to the tune of Clementine).
5. Dancing. Enjoy the following one-baby-dance-party to the vocal stylings of Justin’s Nanna:
So, all of this to say, that we have about the busiest baby I’ve ever met. Always in motion this one. Even in Church, it’s not unusual for him to join the choir with his often unwelcome attempt at harmony with raspberries (that’s when he’s not allowed to roam around the sanctuary).
And now for his official stats:
Height: 29 5/8 inches
Weight: 24 lbs 1.5 oz
Sadly, Justin still does not sleep through the night. I’m lucky if I get one 3 hour stretch in a night. Looks like we get to attempt night weaning for like, the third time. :S
