Our little marmoset is a big boy! At 8 months now he’s up to, and into everything. The coffee table is his favorite toy (besides daddy and momma of course!) as he’s perpetually pulling himself up on it, walking from one end of the other of it using the edge for balance, banging toys on it, throwing things from the top of it, etc. etc. etc.
This last month has been filled with funny stories with Justin at the center of them. Here are a couple short ones:
Justin is quite the talker, and he’s really learning how to use words to manipulate his situation:
1. The other day at about 6:30am Justin was in his crib while mommy and daddy were blissfully sleeping. The following ensued:
Justin: <<fuss, fuss, pout, pout>> “Momma”… “Momma!”
Me: “It’s nigh-night now Justin. Go nigh-night now.”
Justin: “Momma.” … “Momma!”
Me: “Justin, honey, it’s nigh-night.”
Justin: <<silence>> … <<rustle, rustle, rustle>>
I open one eye, then grab my glasses and look at the crib at the foot of our bed. Justin is standing up in his crib, his little round face peeking over the bar.
Justin: “Dadda?” … “Dadda!”
Yes, our little boy has already learned the If-mom-won’t-allow-it,-maybe-dad-will” ploy.
2. We went to Church tonight for a special Liturgy. When we have communion at an evening/non-Sunday service, the congregation does a prostration (a kneel with the forehead to the floor or on hands) when the Gifts are presented. During the service, Justin was standing using the bench that runs the perimeter of the Sanctuary like he uses our coffee table. He noticed everyone silently move to do the prostration and in the silence announced, “Nigh-Night?!” Adorable. He thought we were all going “nigh-night”.
Justin now seems to have a new word for something every day.
Momma, Dadda, nigh-night, “na-na-na” (this means he wants to nurse), and “da-pa” (diaper – though he generally only says this when I’m talking him through a diaper change) are the most common. Seriously, though, this is one of the things I’m loving most about being a parent: baby commentary. It may not always be words, but otherwise innappropriate laughs at our goofy attempts at daily activities (I know I’ve been laughed at more than once for brushing my teeth in front of him), his utter seriousness when we’re trying to be funny – then laughing later. I’m just eating it up.
Then, of course, there are the moments where you can’t load or unload the dishwasher because the moment Justin hears the dishwasher door open, you have maybe 30 seconds before there will be a baby in the dishwasher “helping”. Even better though, is the joy that Justin gets on laundry day. You fill a laundry basket with clothes from the dryer and before you know it, there’s Justin at the edge of the basket pulling out all of the clothes one by one and dragging them all over the house. Ahhh, trouble…
Justin was sitting (buckled of course!) in a shopping cart at Target when I sneezed rather violently. Those of you who know me know that when I sneeze it’s really more of a personal hurricane than just a sneeze. Justin laughed hysterically. Below you’ll find video of my own impersonation of my sneeze and Justin’s response. Enjoy!
Hi everyone. A lot has happened this week: election (which left me feeling happy and yet anxious), exhaustion (as Justin went back to being up nearly every hour for 4 nights straight), getting signed off on sticks at work (no longer needing someone to watch me to make sure I’m putting the needle in people’s arms right), dad being sick (had a stroke scare, turned out to be diabetes and something called Bell’s Palsy), getting my 10 day vacation later this month approved, and finally Justin being sick, again (mostly just some chest congestion).
In short, a lot of very happy events, a lot of very stressful events, and no energy to deal with any of them. I’m left feeling like my emotions have been tossed in a blender and the puree button pushed – but, being a crappy blender (as all of them are), there are still little chunks floating around keeping my emotions from being completely homogenous. PPttthhhhhhh (<- this sounds like raspberries). I need rest. I need a decent, nutritious meal (I haven’t had the time or energy to cook lately). I need a break. I don’t quite know how to get it right now. Any ideas?
