Hi everyone! Since I know some of you are keeping score, I thought I’d give a quick rundown of Justin’s 6-month check up:
The stats:
weight: 19lbs 6oz
length: 28 inches
teeth currently visible: 2
teeth currently about to break gum (according to the dr): 3 (ouch!)
shots: 3 – and they were the third in each series so he had an *awesome* reaction - super fussy, wanted to be held ALL day and night, low grade fever, exhausted but not able to sleep, etc. Good thing he’s a lot better today, poor little guy!
And here are a few of my favorite recent pictures:
After an annoyingly and tragically eventful night, Justin’s second tooth broke the gum this morning at O’dark 30. “Fang” has become “Fangs”!
Eventually he might let me get my finger in just right and position the camera perfectly so that I have a picture of those precious (if sharp) little tooth-ies.
Here’s to some sleep before the next teeth decide to make their entrance!
Well, it came too fast, Justin is one half (of one year, that is)! Our funny little boy is 6 months old!
To celebrate the occasion, I made Justin a “1/2″ cake:
Hello everyone. I know I just blogged last night, but my drooly, fussy baby decided to show us why he was drooly and fussy today.
Justin’s first tooth broke through the gum this morning! His honorary nickname for the day is “Fang”. That’s one tooth closer to chomping on a steak!
Pictures to follow!
Hello everyone! Since I started this weekend with my computer completely crashing (like, couldn’t-even-get-into-Windows crashing) I thought I’d take a moment on my newly recovered computer (thanks Poppa!) to write a quick update about a few things that have been occupying my sphere.
Upon the aforementioned crashing of my computer, my dad came all the way up to Bellingham and brought with him a few large boxes of baby clothes he bought on Ebay. We love this. We’ve had to buy almost no clothes for Justin since before he was born. The thing with Ebay is, you buy a “lot” of clothes so you get a pretty interesting mix. Granted, you get a great deal, so if there are a few pieces that are cut funny or stained or are just plain hideous, it’s not a big deal since most of the items are generally in great shape and are good quality (lots of good brands, like Gymboree, Baby Gap, etc…). We are SO thankful that my folks have done this for us – all different sizes from newborn to 18 months size- especially lately since Justin just jumped from 6 months size to 12 months size in about 2 weeks. Anyway, each box is a bit of a blind box – you get it, and you sort, then wash, then sort again. Sometimes there’s a special prize in the box (besides the majority of really great baby clothes): something so delighfully hideous or ‘unique’ that you have to share it with your friends. Below you’ll find our special prize:
Okay, I know it doesn’t come across as immediately “special” – just a one-piece outfit with animals and text on it. But take a closer look:
Not only does this outfit combine walruses and cacti, but also for some reason includes a canoe that has the text next to it: “The origin of species.” Yup. They’re Darwin jammies. And with the hood that doesn’t come off – I’m thinking that’s how it “evolved”. Now I just need a convention of some sort for Justin to wear it to…
We did some fun things this weekend though- besides entertaining ourselves with the Darwin Jammies. Matt had some art-work to do this weekend so Justin and I had some special time running errands (he loves being in the Ergo when we’re shopping) and going to the park.
I have to preface my next mini-story/tangeant by letting you know that my son is the messiest eater on the planet. He does great with solid food – barely needs a bib, but when breastfeeding he manages to get milk all over the place. This morning took the cake. He was tired (this generally aggravates the messy-eater part) and while he was eating, milk was running across his face (this is normal for him), what I didn’t notice until afterward was that it was not just running on his face, but up into his hair. Yup, he soaked half his head with milk. Yuk! On the upside, we got to try out his new bathtub:
Yes, it’s a giant duck. When you squeeze its beak, it quacks. Completely awesome. Justin likes having the freedom of being able to kick his legs and splash where he was getting too big for his other one.
After a visit from Poppa and Madysen to return the computer, it was off to the park. It took a few tries to find a parking spot, being a beautiful, sunny Saturday and all. Since Justin can sit up all on his own now, there are lots of things we can do at the park that he couldn’t before:
Like play more independently in the grass and watch other kids play:
Also, he got to swing in the “big boy” swings (you know, the ones that have what look like 4 leg-holes…) :
The swing was by far his favorite part. That might be obvious from the picture.
Well, here’s to updating our sleep saga!
By Friday, we’d had a few days of taking Dr. Rosquist’s advice and Justin was back to waking just once per night for a feeding. Awesome!
Then it happened.
My best friend got married. YAY KATE and CHRIS!! Super excited for them! For Justin though, while we were busy with crazy things like wedding rehearsals (and associated rehearsal dinners that run later than our bedtime) all weekend, Justin lost his newly acquired sleep schedule and by Monday night was back to waking up 3-4 times a night. Blech.
The weekend was full of fun events though (besides the wedding, obviously). He was the entertainment while we were waiting for the start of the actual wedding rehearsal:
And Kate’s cuddle-buddy during stressful moments:
By the way, Justin thoroughly enjoys giving people kisses back when they kiss him. Yup. Big, open-mouthed baby kisses. Adorable. Adorable, and wet.
Some folks who’ve enjoyed/endured Justin’s kisses include momma, daddy, Kate, Paula, Madysen, and Nanna & Poppa.
Before the wedding, Justin came with momma to help get her and the other bridesmaids and bride’s hair done at Kate’s hotel. Who needs a bachelorette party when the male “entertainment” comes for free? Check out this ham:
Yup. That’s my baby boy! Cookin’ it up for the ladies!
Anyway, even if he’s not sleeping as much as we’d like (and he needs), he’s still doing A LOT of new things. First (and these are new developments since his 5-month-birthday), there’s the kisses, and then there’s the sitting up all by himself (every once in a while he’ll tip backward -so we generally keep a pillow behind him just in case) but really, he generally can do good 5+ minute stretches without tipping. The big thing he’s working on now is crawling. He’s to the point now where he gets up on his hands and knees and rocks back and forth. Sometimes, he’ll attempt to reach for an object from this position and end up moving backward (video to follow). He’s SO close!
Teething seems to be an on/off sort of thing. I’ll see a white spot in the shape of a tooth under his gum, an then a day or two later, it’s gone and no tooth! Those teeth-ies are moving around in there, one’ll pop up eventually! Right now too we’re having a great time experimenting with various solid foods. He’s been doing rice cereal for a few weeks, and has recently discovered a love of oatmeal cereal – especially when mixed with bananas or apples! mmm. Even mommy doesn’t mind a mini-bite or two! After reading some info on the merits of starting some meats first, we made an attempt at some turkey. Justin thinks it’s a bad idea. He made the most disgusted face ever…
Yup. That was Justin’s first and last bite of turkey. I think if something caused me to make that face, I wouldn’t eat it either!
So that’s what we’re up to. Now, to get some sleep before the long night of reforming baby sleep commences!
