Boy?  It looks like it just might be!  And yes, we’re very happy about it.

After nearly an hour and a half of prodding with an ultrasound transducer by one tech and one doctor (radiologist), the odds are in favor of us having a boy.  In some cases they can say like a 90% chance – not this time.  We might have a little prude in there – only 75% chance of a boy.  Every time they tried to look, he’d tuck his little heels under his butt – very helpful.  Maybe this trait will ease the natural tendency of two-year-olds to “strip-and-run”, but probably not.  Really, my favorite part of the ultrasound was seeing our baby yawn and suckle.

Also, according to a “baby sex predictor” my mom found, if a pregnant woman craves limes more than lemons, she’s having a boy and vice versa.  According to what she read, it’s like 90% accurate.  In which case, we might be able to argue that 75% up to closer to a 90% since I have been craving lime-flavored stuff for the last few months.

Everything looks perfect and right on schedule, according the the ultrasound, so I’m more than happy about that.  While Matt had been eagerly hoping for a girl; but since this morning, he’s been really getting himself excited about all the different things he can do with a son (“we could sit and play legos!”, “He should totally enjoy breaking my toys!” -and yes, that last comment is in the positive.).

As for other exciting events, there really hasn’t been much.  I’m enjoying my second trimester:  I’m at 20 weeks, which, for the rest of you who don’t know what the weeks mean: I’m at the mid-point of my pregnancy (that’s 5 months along).   I’m not experiencing a lot of crazy symptoms, or super weird cravings.  I’m not a huge fan of my bladder being used as a trampoline (it’s really fun when I just went to the bathroom 10 minutes ago!).  Needless to say then, I’m getting a little bit of practice with getting sleep in short intervals since I’m up to use the restroom about 4 times a night.  My only real complaint is (shield your ears, guys) admitting the need to upgrade bra size and the discomfort of even the prospect of bra shopping (ladies, you know what I’m talking about) - The idea of doing it with a “mammary set” that can hardly stand the shower much less putting on and taking off various “harnesses” to find the right fit that will probably only be “the right fit” for a week) is more than a little daunting if painful.

In other news, I’m a little ahead of schedule to be able to qualify for 75% paid maternity leave (I have to have worked a certain number of hours and worked a full 12 months to qualify).  We’re VERY happy about this.  What it means is that we’re still praying for little baby Owen to be about a week late (my anniversary date at work is March 12, baby is due March 4), the later I am, the less vacation I have to take before I take my leave.  Since this is my first baby, this shouldn’t be a problem.  But root for it anyway, my friends.  :)   Either way, it’ll all work out.  And over all, this is excellent news (as complicated as it seems).

So that’s that.  Thanks for your support everyone!
